Mug Rugs

This week my eldest daughter left school and is university bound in September.
I made these mug rugs as thank you gifts for her teachers.

They are easy to make.
You need 1 x 4.5" square
16 x 1.5" squares

Sew together, quilt, trim and bind.

I added a couple of leaves and a flower made from a Suffolk Puff.

This one was for her art teacher.  I didn't think he would want a pretty flower!

Here they are, all ready to go with a new mug and a Flake.
Thanks for visiting today.
Enjoy your weekend.

A Special Keepsake

Hi everyone

I've been working hard on a couple of commissions lately.  This is one of them.
My sister in law asked me to make a wall hanging to celebrate a silver wedding anniversary for a cousin.  I didn't have much time so decided to do a little applique and fancy quilting rather than something pieced.
I forgot to measure it but it turned out roughly 14" x 24",

I hand embroidered the lettering using stranded cottons (floss).

3D tartan flowers with appliqued leaves in the corners. I used one layer of Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 and free motion quilted it on the table top.

I made a little video of me doing the quilting.  All was going well until my bobbin thread ran out.  Here it is:

Ann and George love their hanging so that is always good to hear.
Here's a  sneaky peek of the other custom order I'm working on.  It is for 6 identical place mats
The fabrics are gorgeous - Chicken and Egg from the Henley Studio. Beautiful quality.  I'll show you them in my next post..

Before I go, can I just say thank you if you voted for me in the Bloggers Quilt Festival and thank you if you left a comment - sorry that I didn't have time to reply to you all individually but I seem to be pushed more and more for time these days.   I didn't win but it was a lot of fun and very inspiring to see all the beautiful work.  You can see all the winners  here.
Thanks for visiting.

Tropical Wall Hanging -finishing touches.

This week we have been having unusually hot weather in Scotland so its been a bit of a distraction.  I did try and find myself something that could be worked on while sitting outside and the finishing touches to my wall hanging were the perfect answer.

I made little flowers from Suffolk Puffs (yoyos) and sewed them around the edge.

For the flower centers I sewed  2 circles together, fringed the seam and stuffed them with a little wadding to make them 3D.

At first I made them in blue but it was not the right colour choice.

Finally decided to go with yellow.

Next I turned my attention to the gecko - he needed some more work.

I am still in the process of sewing on beads -slow work but worth it I think.

This is more or less finished now - which means I can start something new......  and I have !

Yesterday I found out I'd won a fat quarter giveaway on Karin's blog, My Love of Sewing and Quilting.
That certainly put me in a good mood.  Go and check it out and become a follower because Karin will be having more giveaways and interesting quilty stuff coming up.
She also keeps chickens and blogs about them too.  I'd love to keep chooky hens - must be so good to have fresh eggs every morning!
Anyway, that's all for now.
See you next time
