Floral Hearts Lap Quilt

This is my floral hearts quilt.  I started to hand applique these hears quite a long time ago and when I found them in a bag, decided to do make a quilt.
I switched from hand to machine applique using a blanket stitch in black around the hearts.

Sashings and cornerstones added.

Cream border with lots of space for quilting......

.... jazzed up a bit with more appliqued hearts.

Then onto the frame for quilting.

Quilted hearts and feathers... in opposite corners.

View of my machine on the frame....

Very happy with the quilting on this one.

Just off the frame.

I finished it off by rounding the corners and dark red binding.
It measures 56" x 62" and I used Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 wadding.

Thank you for visiting my blog today.
Have a great weekend.

Grand Illusion - the Quilting

Hi there
This is the final post on this quilt - Bonnie Hunter's Grand Illusion Mystery.
I made half the amount of blocks and did a 3 x 4 layout then I quilted it on a queen sized Gracie frame with my Janome 1600p.

                                                                  Quilt completed.

Top finished.

I used one layer of Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 and the same colour thread throughout.  It was a difficult choice with the thread but i went with a pale limey green.

Here it is on the frame........

Feathers in the border.........

                                                                         Pebbles

This is the back.

For the binding I used the same red fabric as the border.  I hardly had any left and decided to try Bonnie's method of cutting my binding at 2" instead of the usual 2.5".
I have to say I love the binding at this width.  It made a very neat job and was even on both sides.  I will be doing my bindings this width from now on!

I have to say thank you Bonnie for another great mystery.
I'm adding this post to Bonnie's linky party. so head on over to see all the other Grand Illusion quilts. Already looking forward to this years mystery.........
Thanks for visiting my blog today.

Quilted Satin Cushion

This cushion was another gift I made for a friend at Christmas.
I used a piece of dusky pink satin and this time the quilting was done on my frame.

Grand Illusion Parts 3, 4, 5 and the Reveal

I failed to get my parts of Bonnie's mystery quilt posted to the linky party lately.
So here are parts 3, 4 ,5 and the reveal all in one post.

                                                  Everything measuring up nicely.

                                                                               Part 3
                                                                         Part 4

Part 5

I am doing a 3 x 4 layout which means I will have to add an extra border to make the pieced outer border fit.

This is as far as I have progressed but it will be finished and loaded onto my frame ready for quilting by the weekend.    As for how I am going to quilt it -  I'm undecided.  Fancy quilting is hardly going to show as the pattern is too busy so I am thinking of an all over design.  My extra border will give me the chance to sneak in some feathers I hope.
I will be keeping this quilt for myself as I have done with the last 3 mysteries.  Love Bonnie's quilts.
Why not head over to the linky party and see all the Grand Illusions.  There are some brilliant colour variations going on.  I've enjoyed looking at them all.
Now, back to the borders.............
See you next time.
