It's so good to be back in my sewing room after the summer holidays.
I have so much to work on I don't know where to start!
Decided to go with a little ring cushion I promised my friend I would make for her wedding.
I thought a quilted heart on satin would be nice but a practice run was in order first.
Back to the sewing machine.......
Attempt no 3
Again my plumes are going the wrong way :(
Much happier with my plumes in this one but again the space in the center is ugly!
Back to the machine....
Finally on my 5th attempt, I produced something I was quite happy with. This time I marked a small heart in the center of the bigger heart and this helped me keep a nice shape.
Phew - I was hours working on these.
I made 2 of the samples into minature cushions for my girls.
Next day, I quilted on satin for the ring cushion. Everything went great until I realised the wadding ( a thick polyester) I had used made unsightly bumps under the satin..........
Today, I'm going to do it again but use a superior quality hobbs heirloom 80/20 wadding, probably a couple of layers as I want the heart to look puffy.
Hopefully I'll be back soon with a finished product.

Its a pity about the polyeaster wadding as the last feather heart looked beautiful!
Feathers are tricky customers, I am spending quality time with my unpicker today after a feather fail, wish I had the good sense like you to use a test piece to practice a feather design on first.
Yeah - bummer about that batting issue. The quilting looks fabulous now, though! I need to do a series like this to get un-freaked about quilting feathers!!
Wow! I'm impressed with your dedication to trying this design so many times!!! I truly didn't even notice the feathers going the *wrong way* on the purple heart, lol, until you pointed it out!! Still looks gorgeous, and I have no doubt your girls will love their new cushions!!! ... Love the idea for the design (and purpose)!! .. And the fact that you're not afraid to use satin - really going to have to add that to the list of things to try!!! :) Enjoy your weekend!! Hugs!
I'm always impressed by your work, and this was a great post sharing how much you practise. I usually try to practise myself, but sometimes I think I can do fine without and usually pay the price (ripping). It is too bad the batting/wadding was a pain.

I love them all, it has inspired me to try that design just on any style of pattern. I like the smaller heart in the center. I think you might just have perfected it. The pillows really look great, you are soo good at the ruffle on the pillows too. I know one day you will pass the love of quilting down. look forward to seeing more of your work. Oh my goodness, Rhianon, you just don't give up, do you? :) Your feathers look absolutely amazing! Did you mark the quilting lines, or just the heart shape? Thanks for sharing, I was hopping over from can I get a WHOOP WHOOP? You definitely deserve one! WHOOP WHOOP!!!
