Just a short post today to let you see a little bit of the flowers which are now ready to be sewn onto the background piece.
I have made 3 different kinds of flowers....
I'm on a roll to try and get this finished for tomorrow...
Come back then and I will show you the whole piece.
Enjoy your day !

Work in Progress - the Background.
Thought I'd give you step by step updates of this project -especially this part because not much of it will be seen when I'm finished with it,
I started with a piece of black cotton and made a quilt sandwich using Hobbs heirloom 80/20 black wadding.
To add a bit of interest, I stitched down some rainbow organza in opposite corners.....
Then using a sparkly thread I quilted, quite lightly, some leafy sprays and a couple of feathers ( couldn't resist!).
After binding it with a gorgeous multi coloured batik, it now looks like this and is ready for me to start building it up with these.......
Lots of little flower components......
Some will be machine quilted to the top and the rest will be sewn on by hand.
I've no idea if this will turn out a success or not - it could be way over the top - but then, I've had a lot of fun
playing with the fabrics.
Til next time......

A Work in Progress - adding texture.
I've been working on a project this week which is all about adding texture.
Thought you would like to have a sneaky peek......
I must apologise for the slightly dark photo but it is a very dull and wet day here.
You will see more about this project as it progresses and I will be doing a tutorial on how to make 3D flowers as part of a project I am involved in for quilting for blind and partially sighted people.
I'll keep you posted.
Enjoy your weekend.

Colourful Placemats
Finally, this week I finished my placemats. They were so badly needed ( my old ones from Ikea lasted 9 years - not bad!) and they didn't really take me very long once I got down to it.
I designed them myself and used fabrics from my scrap stash.
I machine appliqued the apples and chilli. Apples for my girls and me and a hot chilli for hubby becasue he loves them.
I made 31/2" string blocks for the outer borders. Love string blocks!
I outline quilted the chilli/apples then stippled the rest all over using a multi coloured rainbow thread ( Superior King Tut's).
I stuck with a plain black binding as they are busy enough with all those different fabrics.
I also made a spare one for when my sister comes to visit - hers has a chilli on it becasue she loves hot food too.
Pretty pleased with how these turned out and when I gave them to my girls they said " these are too nice to use Mum!". Too late the old ones are in the bin!
This week I also made a set of pinwheel blocks for a bloggy friend who is doing something secret for a friend. The theme was autumnal and they are now on their way to America.
Today I'm linking up with Dreaming in Patchwork. Allison is this weeks hostess of TGIFF, so head on over and take a peek!
Hope you all have a lovely Easter weekend.
