Starburst Dresden Quilt

I love Dresden plate quilts and when I saw this version I just had to make one.
The block is designed by the Missouri Star Quilt Company and you can find the video tutorial here

My blocks finished at a huge 21.5" and I decided to do a 3 x 4 layout.  I used my tall triangles ruler to make the spikey border.........

......... it seemed to take a long time to make this border but I really like it so it was worth the effort.

In the negative space between the big Dresdens I made smaller plates in subtle colours.  I wanted them to blend into the background.
This quilt took a lot of fabric to make and the top was quite heavy before quilting, despite me cutting away the excess fabric from behind the plates.  I used one layer of Hobbs 80/20 wadding.
This is it coming off the frame.
Finished but not bound.
It was all freehand quilted by myself with my Q'nique.

A view of the back.

I have entered this quilt into the Scottish Quilt Championships which is this weekend in Edinburgh.
Woo hoo that means I have a quilt show to go to and that can only mean lots of quilty shopping!!! Can't wait.  Hopefully I will also be able to get a photo of the full quilt hanging up.
Thanks for visiting today.  I'll be back soon with a post from the quilt show.
Rhianon. :)
