See you all next time.

Edinburgh Quilt Show, Feb 2011.

Hello,
Today was a fantastic day because I got to go to the quilt show in Edinburgh. It's one of the two main shows that are on in Scotland - the next one is in September. I had a great time although my 2 daughters were a little bored. Think I will have to find a babysitter next time.

Here are some of the beautiful quilts that were on display.

I do apologise if i don't have the whole quilt in the frame but it was very busy and there was not much space.

I liked this one alot.

I thought this was really well done.

Some good work there I think you'll agree. For some reason this is not letting me post anymore photos. I'll have to do a part 2
Hope you enjoyed part 1.

Leaders and Enders and surprises from the Postman

Hello
A busy week with family stuff has left me not a lot of time to be creative.
For a while now I've been organising my scraps into various shapes and sizes with the idea of using Bonnie Hunters scrap users system. I've been feeding them through my machine and couldn't resist making up a few blocks.

Eventually it will be a riot of colour.

The postman has brought me 2 lovely surprises. The first to arrive was this beautiful mermaid doll - made by my friend Shelley in Australia. Isn't the detail fantastic?

Take my word for it - this hand crafted doll is exquisite. If you would like to see more of Shelley's work then check out her blog - you can get the link from my bloglist on the right. Shelley's is Wickedly Divine Creations. She really is a talented needle woman and I feel priveliged to be the proud owner one of her dollies.

Second surprise which came in the post was this stash of stunning batiks from my friend Miriam and her daughter Susan. They live in Virginia, USA.
I am itching to start something with these!!!!!!! Watch this space!

This weekend I am hoping to get to the Quilt Show in Edinburgh so next post I will have lots of photos of beautiful quilts to show you. mmmmmm....
Til then, happy sewing everyone.
Rhianon.

Kathleen's Quilt

It's taken me two weeks to make this quilt as a gift for my MIL. Finally It is bound and done! I'm very pleased with how it turned out.

It was hand quilted.

Now, because I made a lap quilt for my mum-in-law, I had to make one for my dad-in-law. The top is finished but I've yet to quilt it. No quilting tomorrow because I'll be doing goldwork.

Enjoy your day everyone.

The Day Job

Sometimes, like many of you, I don't get as much time as I want to spend on quilting. I am lucky though, because my day job involves sewing.
I do goldwork embroidery on Masonic regalia.

It's pretty time consuming work, but i must like it because i've been doing it for 22 years!

I'd like to recommend this site to anyone who has not already discovered it. It is www.amishcountrylanes.com
They have the most beautiful quilts, I can spend hours drooling over them!

Finally, I'd like to share a drawing that my 13 year old daughter, Natalya did of me. I love it, from the eyelashes down to my slippers. She has just started a blog herself and would love it if you could take a wee peek!

More Disappearing 9 patches

Take a pile of 5" squares

Sew 9 together , then chop them into quarters.

Always have the darkest square in the center.

Re-arrange and sew them back together any way you want to. Play around and see what you like best.
 Et Voila !
This pattern is oh so simple but really effective especially if you have to make a quilt in a hurry. Love it!
