Happy Scrappy Houses

I started making the blocks for this quilt quite a while ago and they lay around in a shoebox for months until I finally got around to doing something with them..

The pattern is Happy Scrappy Houses by Bonnie Hunter and you can find it here.

I decided to make mine lap sized. I added a couple of borders and some cute little applique tree blocks in the corners..

 There always seems to be a stray thread that gets in the photo!

 The quilting was done on my grace frame with my Q,nique.   I used one layer of Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 and mostly Glide threads.

So that's another one to add to my Bonnie Hunter Collection of quilts. I must do a post on all Bonnie's quilts I have made, it is quite a few now. 

Next up on my frame is a baby quilt of my own design.

A Special Keepsake

Hi everyone

I've been working hard on a couple of commissions lately.  This is one of them.
My sister in law asked me to make a wall hanging to celebrate a silver wedding anniversary for a cousin.  I didn't have much time so decided to do a little applique and fancy quilting rather than something pieced.
I forgot to measure it but it turned out roughly 14" x 24",

I hand embroidered the lettering using stranded cottons (floss).

3D tartan flowers with appliqued leaves in the corners. I used one layer of Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 and free motion quilted it on the table top.

I made a little video of me doing the quilting.  All was going well until my bobbin thread ran out.  Here it is:

Ann and George love their hanging so that is always good to hear.

The fabrics are gorgeous - Chicken and Egg from the Henley Studio. Beautiful quality.  I'll show you them in my next post..

Floating Hearts Baby Quilt

Hello there

I was very happy to be asked to make a baby quilt recently.  I was given free reign as long as it was girly and had some nice quilting on it.
This is what I came up with:

I chose hearts and kept the design simple so as to leave big open areas for quilting.  The finished quilt measures 35" x 43".

I used bondaweb and machine appliqed the hearts.   There is no trapunto here, instead I used a thick 6 oz polyester wadding (batting).  Outline quilting, then flattening the background with stippling really makes the hearts and feathers 'pop'.

I free motion quilted this on my domestic machine. I will be practicing my frame quilting in the new year but until then I am doing it they way I know best.

Decided to try a half feather in the pink border and i love how it turned out.

 I finished the quilt with a piano key border, rounded off the corners and bound with a plain pink.

I worked a loopy heart pattern in the outer border.

This quilt will be delivered to new owner next week and will be given as a gift. I hope they love it as much as I do :)

Stars and Butterflies - Quilting Progress Update

Hello everyone

Sorry I didn't post last week - I had no finish to show and I don't this week but I have been getting a lot of quilting done on this quilt.

This was where I was up to and it was time to work on the cream flower borders.  This was the part I was really looking forward to.

Feathers in the background with tiny stippling behind to make them 'pop'

I am very happy with how this border is turning out.

Next up was a little detail on the flowers.

Now I have all the feathers done in the borders. 

I still have to work on the leaves and the butterflies yet but I can see light at the end of the tunnel.

So far I have spent 36 hours free motion quilting.  It's not as quick as you think sometimes.

Next time I post about this quilt, I hope to have it finished.

Aren't they gorgeous?  They came from Sew Fine Fabrics.  Jodi has the most beautiful, unusual fabrics and it was difficult to choose.  Can't wait to do something with these!

Hearts Baby Quilt

I was commissioned to make this small quilt for a baby.  It is designed as a pram or stoller cover.

Kindle and ipad Covers

Hi everyone.

This week I finally got round to finishing off the assortment of covers I'd been making.
Here they are:

They are all free motion quilted with feathers and a few have flowers.

This was one of the first ones I made, where I used a band over a button to close it, but I prefer the tab - it has a neater finish.
