In the morning I had read Monika's blog and she had made a lovely cushion which inspired me to get working on some feathers.
First of all, I watched Karen McTavish's tutorial on creating Victorian feathers.
Then I practiced on paper :
I only marked some spines on the fabric, the rest is freehand.
...... then filled in the background with some pebbling.
I think I've managed to create a billowing effect with the feathers, which I am very pleased about.
I am planning to do this in the borders of my QAYG project so the aim was to fill a space wider than a narrow strip.
I feel confident I can do this now.
The finished piece measures 18" square approx and took me 2 hours to complete.
Okay, I'm going to go and finish the prairie point blocks now so I can get on with quilting more feathers.
Have a great monday everyone.
Rhianon.
Oh I envy your quilting Rhianon....it is gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning. You have really developed your style of quilting with these gorgeous feathers. Superb!
ReplyDeleteWow! That looks really nice. I love that thread - which is it? It's nice and "fat" so it shows up well instead of just being a faint suggestion of the colors.
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS! WOW, oh, WOW!
ReplyDeleteYour Victorian feathers and pebbles are wonderful!! I'm definitely going to have to check out the tutorials, thanks!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
Always, Queenie
WOW! This is totally amazing. Thanks for sharing the photos they are really inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThis is really beautiful. I admire not only the feathers but also all those pebbles. (I love creating feathers--pebbles, not at all--so I'm in awe of both your feathers and pebbles!)
ReplyDeleteAmaaaaazing! Your sketch is just as fantastic as your quilting. You can definitely put those on the border of your quilt no problem!
ReplyDeleteYou inspired me. Here's what I did with your inspiration:
