Colourful Placemats

Finally, this week I finished my placemats.  They were so badly needed  ( my old ones from Ikea lasted 9 years - not bad!) and they didn't really take me very long once I got down to it.

I designed them myself and used fabrics from my scrap stash.

I machine appliqued the apples and chilli.  Apples for my girls and me and a hot chilli for hubby becasue he loves them.

I made 31/2" string blocks for the outer borders.  Love string blocks!

I outline quilted the chilli/apples then stippled the rest all over using a multi coloured rainbow thread ( Superior King Tut's).

I stuck with a plain black binding as they are busy enough with all those different fabrics.

I also made a spare one for when my sister comes to visit - hers has a chilli on it becasue she loves hot food too.

Pretty pleased with how these turned out and when I gave them to my girls they said " these are too nice to use Mum!".   Too late the old ones are in the bin!

This week I also made a set of pinwheel blocks for a bloggy friend who is doing something secret for a friend. The theme was autumnal and they are now on their way to America.
