Mug Rugs

This week my eldest daughter left school and is university bound in September.
I made these mug rugs as thank you gifts for her teachers.

They are easy to make.
You need 1 x 4.5" square
16 x 1.5" squares

Sew together, quilt, trim and bind.

I added a couple of leaves and a flower made from a Suffolk Puff.

This one was for her art teacher.  I didn't think he would want a pretty flower!

Here they are, all ready to go with a new mug and a Flake.
Thanks for visiting today.
Enjoy your weekend.

Mug Rugs and a Mother's Day Gift.

Hi

First off I would like to thank every blogger who linked upwith TGIFF on friday.  It was fun hosting the party.
I've had a great week in my sewing room - getting a lot more done than normal.
I decided to make some work to go in my Etsy shop, so I started with mug rugs, like the ones I made to sell in aid of Dementia UK.

This is a set of 4 in bright colourful fabrics.

These measure 4 1/2" x 8 1/2" - just a nice size.

Next up are a pair of mug rugs in slightly calmer colours.

I decorated these ones with a little Suffolk puff flower.

It's Mother's day here in the UK today so I thought I'd make Mum a little mini wall hanging.

I used the same method as the bigger wall hanging but changed the colour schem to match Mum's living room.
( She has a pink settee!)

It was a lovely sunny day yesterday and I managed to get some really good photos which show up the quilting.

Close up of flowers.  You know it's funny becasue I showed this to my twin brother who is a tattooist and he asked me where I got the design for the flowers.  I told him ' out of my head - I made them up'.  He said he'd been working on flowers ( that he designed)  practically the same, even down to the little ring of circles in the flower center - on a customer that day!   Isn't that spooky ?  - must be our twin thing again!
Anyway, back to the close ups :

I'll take this up to Mum later on when I go and visit.

Today I'm going to make a pyjama case, which is a request from my youngest daughter and later this week I'm planning on finishing a quilt top I've been working on. so I'll leave you with a sneaky peek at that.

Have a good week everyone.

TGIFF - The Party Is Here ! ! !

Hello everyone.

Very exciting today becasue I am the host of todays TGIFF party.  First time I've done anything like this and I feel strangely nervous.

Anyway onto the business at hand - I have a major finish this week..........

This is my Dresden plate quilt made (mostly) with my favourite fabric - batiks!

I will be giving this to my big sister for her birthday in April.  I hope she will love it.

These photos were taken before I added the Suffolk puffs (yoyos) but it was a nice sunny day (they've been in short supply) and the quilting showed up well.

On the black fabric I quilted with Guetermann  sparkly thread.  It makes the whole quilt shimmer.

On the outer border I quilted fancy feathers using King Tut's varigated thread.  I love the thread build up as it really shows off the thread at it's best.

Detail of the back....

I do have another finish - well actually they are lots of little finishes......

These are mini mugrugs to be sold in aid of Dementia UK.  They are easy to make and measure 4" x 8". I really enjoyed making them.

So that's it for today.  If you have a finish,  please share with us and add your link at the bottom of the post.
If you are a blogger who would be interested in hosting a TGIFF party, you can find all the details here

The TGIFF logo and link is always in my sidebar..........
Unitl the next time
Happy sewing

A Few Little Friday Finishes!!!

Well Christmas is fast approaching and I've been busy finishing up a few little mug rugs.
I know you are all probably getting a bit fed up with these but my sister said to me " If I only get one present from you - please let it be a mug rug with a flower!"
Then my girls chipped in, " we want a mug rug too Mum - with a flower".   I couldn't deny them now, could I?

First up is an oversized mug rug for my DH.  He has a little table that sits beside his spot on the settee, so this was made to fit that.

Yes, I've been playing with my Lil Twister again.  Pretty pleased with how it turned out, although I'm not sure about the meandering in the border with the variagted thread.  Too bad, it is staying as I don't have the time or the inclination to unpick it all.  I'm sure hubby won't mind!

This one is for my youngest daughter.

These cute little panels were in a big bag of scraps that Irene from quilt group gave me.  Irene calls her scraps 'leavings', I am always grateful to get Irene's 'leavings' as she dyes a lot of her own fabrics and the colour assortment is always fantastic!

Flower detail.

This one is for my eldest daughter - similar to the last one but a little different.

What girl doesn't love shoes ???

Finally , the last one is for my sister :

I'm glad to get these finished and under my belt.

Today I'm linking up with  Lucy from Charm About You.  she is hosting this weeks TGIFF party, so click this link : http://charmaboutyou.blogspot.com/2011/12/so-bleeping-awesome-thank-goodness-its.html
and go and have a look at all the finishes.

I'm off to wrap a few presents now while I wait for Part 5 of Bonnie's mystery.
Have a great weekend.
Happy Stitching

Friday Finishes!

Must say, I've had a really busy week with my regalia work and Part 1 of Orca Bay ( mystery quilt) but I did manage two small finishes.
I've been making a stack of mug rugs as Christmas gifts and got two finished last night.

This first one  is two strips of seminole patchwork.  We did this at our last meeting of quilt group.
I'm not sure I got my measurements correct as the contrast fabric in the center of the fat strip is an ablong and not a square.  mmmm ?   Still I think it turned out okay.

Close up of my tribally / swirly free motion quilting.

Next up is an old faithful :

I don't think I could ever get sick of making these and I love getting the chance to practice feathers !

I used a satin fabric for the flower this time , a bit tricky and slippery to work with but I think the end result is worth it.

So that is it for now.
Being Friday means I am linking up with Shanna from Sparrow in Flight who is hosting this weeks TGIFF party.

Why not head on over there and check out the finishes ?

Have a good weekend everyone
