I don't have a finish to show you this week, instead I have a new beginning.
This is a project I was inspired to make by a thimble!
My husband brought it back from Shetland for me ( I like to collect thimbles). It's made of pewter and has a viking longboat on it. I thought it would be a great subject for a wall hanging and something a bit different.
Slowly, adding the detail.
The sea was by far the most challenging part. I just started playing around with some shapes to see how they looked.
Eventually I settled on this......
This is a raven on the sail. I will add the detail with hand embroidery. Did you know that the vikings trained ravens to search for land? I thought that was really interesting.
So that is it so far. I will post about this from time to time so I hope you'll come back to see how its coming along.
Have a super Sunday.
til next time....
Rhianon.
That is amazing! My husband is fascinated by Vikings, he would love this!
ReplyDeletefantastic Rhianon....such a neat piece. i enjoy Vicking shows on TV...I have been trying to keep up with one lately....'Vikings'; I know simple as far as a name, but it is an exciting show.
ReplyDeleteI love the background piece but mostly I am so impressed with your inspiration for a beautiful piece just by a thimble! Can't wait to see the final piece!
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with the water and the ombre fabric is perfect.
ReplyDeleteLove this wall hanging... and the thimble is so ugly and cute all at the same time, lol. I look forward to updates.

ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of reading about Noah's Ark in the Bible. In Genesis, chapter 8 Noah sent out a raven to find dry land but all was covered with water and he returned to the ark. He sent a dove out later but it took her two trips to find land but she did.
I loved studying about the Vikings in school, very interesting people. This creation of yours, Rhianon, is already a beautiful piece and the water is spectacular! Looking forward to see it continue to come to life.
Rhianon, this is absolutely splendid!! I love everything about it. And what a cool thimble in the first place. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome!! Thanks for sharing it.
